    100% on the monitor mount comment. The only mount that hasn't come loose on me in the swivel tilt section is the Andy Cine monitor mount, the cold shoe attachment is atrocious on it though. My monitor crashed to the ground when using it once. Running the SmallRig hawk lock swivel tilt monitor mount now but I'm always having to tighten it up so it does get too loose on set.

    Thanks for the review! How’s the autofocus on the fx6 with these attached? I’ve already got the pictor zoom kit for my blackmagic but I am considering the catta kit so i’ve got some cine glass for client work and everything i use the sony’s for.

      Thanks for your comment! It's important to note that the DZOFILM Catta zooms are manual focus lenses. While the Sony FX6 has autofocus capabilities, it won't work with these specific lenses. That being said, the Catta zooms are known for their smooth and precise manual focus rings, which can be a great option for creative control. If autofocus is a priority for you, you might want to consider other lens options for the FX6.

      You're absolutely right. The A7S III's combination of low-light performance, high frame rate recording, and reliable autofocus makes it a very compelling option for video creators. Karl, love your videos man! Factored in heavily on choosing my ugprades from Tilta's system for the FX6 to the Bright Tangerine/Wooden Camera accs. Curious, have you flown with this case, and did you end up having to check it? I used to use a Pelican 1510 for my Komodo package, but have been using a bag for the FX6 for the past 8 months. Love Nanuk, will probably grab this one.

      Thanks! I appreciate the kind words and comments! I love that these videos have helped you with those decisions. I just want to provide things I come across and how I think things can get better if you just spend a little more money sometimes haha. I have flown with it and you will have to check it for sure. It is to big for overhead. I put everything else I need in it and put my lenses and camera bodies in a Nanuk 936 to carry on. As I am sure you know all to well, don't trust them not getting horribly tossed around haha. But for day to day use, you can't beat this case for a one stop shop. If you just went only camera and lenses you could probably fit the Komodo and FX6 in this box. Thanks again for the comment, Cheers!

    Hi I have a question and I would rlly appreciate your input. What about the sony a6400 with either the kit lens or the sigma 18-50mm zoom lens vs the iPhone 15 pro? in terms of just photography, I'm not interested in video creation. Is the extra bulk and heft worth it? And could it out perform the iPhone 15 pro or are they similar in performance?

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich Місяць тому

      Hi! Great question. When it comes to just photography, both the Sony a6400 and the iPhone 15 Pro have their strengths, but they cater to slightly different needs. Sony a6400 with Kit Lens or Sigma 18-50mm Zoom Lens: Image Quality: The a6400 has a larger APS-C sensor compared to the iPhone's smaller sensor, which generally means better image quality, especially in low-light situations. The Sigma 18-50mm lens is known for its sharpness and versatility. Control: The a6400 offers more manual controls and customization options, allowing for greater creativity and precision in your shots. Lens Flexibility: You can switch lenses on the a6400, which can be a significant advantage if you want to explore different types of photography (e.g., macro, telephoto). iPhone 15 Pro: Convenience: The iPhone 15 Pro is much more portable and always with you, making it incredibly convenient for spontaneous photography. Computational Photography: It uses advanced computational photography techniques to enhance images, which can be great for everyday photography and social media. Ease of Use: The iPhone's camera app is user-friendly and perfect for quick, high-quality shots without much setup. Comparison: Bulk and Heft: The a6400 is definitely bulkier and heavier compared to the iPhone. If you value portability and ease of use, the iPhone 15 Pro might be more appealing. Performance: In terms of raw image quality, especially in challenging lighting conditions, the a6400 with either lens will likely outperform the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the iPhone 15 Pro is no slouch and can produce excellent images, especially with its advanced software processing. My Conclusion: If you’re looking for the best possible image quality and don’t mind carrying a larger camera, the Sony a6400 is a great choice. However, if you prefer convenience and ease of use, the iPhone 15 Pro is a strong contender and can handle most photography needs very well. Hope this helps!

    Hmm... On the one hand, yes this is a good lens. But good for what? Landscape? Not so sure about that. Even at its optimal aperture (which seems to be f8 - f11) it's sharp only in the middle. The edges leave a lot to be desired and the corners add vignetting and chromatic aberrations. For street, especially if you like to use shapes and contrast, it is a very good option. Even better because it is almost a pancake lens and you can be very discrete with it. Portrait? Maybe, but make sure the face, or at least the eyes, are in the sweet spot in the middle. In some cases that will leave too much real estate above the head so cropping may be necessary in post. The softness fully open though - I think some female subjects would appreciate that. Architectural? If the light gives you greater contrast then yes. But I find whatever I use this lens for, I am adding a lot of use of sharpness, clarity, and contrast tools in post. For all these reasons I bought a Sigma 18-50 f2.8. It has great performance across the zoom range, can focus close enough to simulate macro, and is so sharp... As well as the wider aperture giving better low light performance. It's a bargain, but no OSS. So... I use both. Definitely the Sony kit lens for street - the compact nature, quick autofocus, and OSS make it ideal for that. But you also need to be aware of the limitations. They are easy to work round for street, much harder for all other subject types. I also find the Sony lens good for video, because of the OSS. I almost never need to stabilise in post. The slight softness also gives an old film-type movie effect at times which is nice. Similarly I don't use the Sigma for video because of lack of OSS. But everything else it rocks! Even so, I prefer the stealth of the Sony lens for street.

      Hi @andrisstanga5938, Thank you for the detailed insight! You’ve raised some excellent points about the strengths and weaknesses of the lens. Sony Kit Lens: Landscape Photography: I agree that it might not be the best choice for landscapes due to edge sharpness and vignetting issues at optimal apertures (f/8 - f/11). These drawbacks can indeed be limiting for capturing wide, detailed scenes. Street Photography: The compact, almost pancake design, combined with quick autofocus and OSS (Optical SteadyShot), makes it ideal for street photography. Its discreteness is a significant advantage in candid shooting. Portraits: While the softness when fully open can be flattering for some subjects, especially in portrait photography, ensuring the eyes or face are in the sweet spot is crucial. Cropping in post is often necessary to adjust the composition. Architectural Photography: As you mentioned, it can work well if the lighting provides good contrast, though it may require a lot of post-processing adjustments for sharpness, clarity, and contrast. Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8: Performance: This lens offers excellent sharpness across the zoom range and a wider aperture for better low-light performance. It’s versatile, with the ability to focus close enough to simulate macro shots, making it a great all-around lens. No OSS: The lack of Optical SteadyShot is a drawback for video, which is where the Sony kit lens shines due to its stabilization. Personal Use: It's great to hear you use both lenses for their respective strengths. The Sony kit lens excels in street photography and video, thanks to its compactness, quick autofocus, and OSS. The Sigma, on the other hand, offers superior performance for other types of photography, though it lacks stabilization for video work. My conclusion: Each lens has its unique advantages and limitations, making them suitable for different types of photography. It's all about knowing their strengths and working around their limitations. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

    I have owned the A6000 for nearly 5 years, and bought it primarily for travel - due to its compact design and advanced features. I got sick of lugging my DSLR as a flight carry-on. One detriment you missed is battery life. If you are out shooting for the day, better have two charged batteries with you! Not a real problem; I do the same with my Sony Alpha 100 DSLR.

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich Місяць тому

      @josephterranova4855 It's fantastic to hear about your experience with the Sony A6000 over the past five years, especially considering how it has enhanced your travel photography with its compact design and advanced capabilities. The decision to switch from a DSLR to a mirrorless camera like the A6000 for travel purposes makes a lot of sense; those weight and size considerations can really impact the enjoyment of a trip. You bring up an excellent point about battery life, a factor that can sometimes be overlooked in discussions about camera gear. It's true that when you're out and about for a full day of shooting, having a spare battery or two is practically a necessity, particularly with a camera like the A6000 that may consume more power due to its compact size and advanced features. It's interesting to note that this isn't a unique challenge to mirrorless cameras; even DSLRs like your Sony Alpha 100 can require extra batteries for a day-long excursion. Managing battery life effectively becomes part of the routine for photographers who are serious about their craft, especially when shooting on location or during extended sessions. Carrying spare batteries, investing in portable chargers, or even exploring power-saving settings can all help mitigate this challenge to ensure uninterrupted shooting experiences. Thanks for sharing your insight-it's a valuable reminder of the practical considerations that come with using different types of cameras, and it adds depth to the conversation for anyone considering their next gear upgrade or planning their next photo adventure. Here's to many more years of capturing incredible moments with your A6000! Cheers!

    iphone does NOT support external audio input like a portable audio interface that replaces the microphone of the Iphone. You can’t record videos with better sound quality. On the Sony camera you can. Line out of the audio interface into the mic in of the sony camera and it records with the better audio and synchronization.

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich Місяць тому

      @turtlefeet7722 You're right about the iPhone's limitations regarding external audio input, and it's a significant factor for anyone looking to elevate their video production quality. Using a Sony camera with the capability to connect directly to an audio interface does offer a huge advantage for capturing higher quality, synchronized sound directly in-camera. It's a solid point for content creators to consider when choosing their gear, especially if audio quality is a priority. Thanks for highlighting this difference! 🎤📹 Cheers!

    Why get A6700 now. I want one soon but I will wait for a revolutionary update. You would enjoy 90 percent of its benefits from a 6100 and 6400 for fraction of the cost. The 6000 is still a good stills camera to get somewhat vintage look and older color science.

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich Місяць тому

      @pinikpikantv3555 That's a valid point, and waiting can sometimes really pay off, especially with how fast technology evolves! The A6100 and A6400 indeed offer great value and cover most needs quite well. Plus, using the A6000 for that vintage feel is a fantastic idea for those unique looks. It all comes down to personal needs and how much the latest features matter to you. If the upcoming features in the next update are game-changers for your photography, holding off sounds like a wise choice. Keep us posted on what you decide! 📸👍 Cheers!

    One of those aha moments for me. I am a hobbyist who started pre-digital. I currently shoot raw with a pretty flat profile and use custom presets in camera to produce jpegs from my best images. Only a few test pics in and this has simplified my process enormously and I'm getting far better results. I am shooting everything at 5600k and tweaking up or down at most by 200 for the final jpeg. 'film stocks were almost all daylight balanced' ...hit me in the face why don't you 😂. Thx ❤

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich Місяць тому

      That's fantastic to hear! It sounds like you've really honed your technique to make the most out of your shoots. Your approach of sticking close to 5600k for that natural daylight balance is clever, and it’s great that tweaking it slightly gives you such good results. Isn’t it amazing how some small adjustments can make such a big difference? Keep enjoying your photography journey, and thanks for sharing that insight-it's definitely an aha moment worth noting! Cheers

    great video! I run a7siii handheld but realize somewhere down the road I will probably get an FX6 and also an easy rig as it doesn't have any internal stabilization to my knowledge. so this was interesting to watch as I want this set up in the future. just curious, what were the tipping points for you to move from a7siii to fx6? (assuming the s3 used to be your A cam and then eventually it became your B cam when you got an fx6). Is it the internal VNDs? The bulkier size so the client is more impressed haha (it's funny but kindof real too...) any other big differences that made you get the fx6? thanks!

    • @KarlWeinreich
      @KarlWeinreich 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment! The FX6 does not have any stabilization so all of that would have to be in post or with the use of other tools. The Easy-rig helps a ton in saving your back with a heavier rig and helps take most of those big movements out of the shots. As far as why I went with the FX6 over the FX3 or another A7SIII. The internal ND is huge for me personally. I see the need for it so much when you can't control every shoots time of day shooting. I use filters a lot in my matte box but and they are great but nothing beats the internal ND's. I like the MXF Wrapper for editing also. It seems to be easier to use in my case. It is just a beefier FX3/A7SIII and I like that. I also wanted something that had the perception people want to see and I will not hide that. I like to rig my camera out in more of a cinema way as I feel it works better and easier when in use. I use the hell out of my A7SIII still and will never replace it as long as it keeps going. Hope that helps, thanks again for the comment, Cheers!

    • @KarlWeinreich

      It all depends on what lenses you have. It is most definitely capable of creating great images for a cheaper price. But you are giving up a lot of the features that newer cameras have. It also does not have any stabilization built in so you would need a gimbal. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
